Scam AdviceThere are a number of scams in operation in the UK involving horses (as well as other items such as cars, motorbikes etc). The scams appear to start with an advertiser being contact by a potential purchaser via email. These emails are often from foreign nationals and are written in very poor, broken English and the wording quite often doesnt match up with an appropriate response to the wording of your advert. The email may state that the interested party will send you a bankers draft/arrange a money transfer for more than the price of your horse/item for sale and then they will ask you to give the extra money to a third party who may be collecting/shipping your horse/item for sale. These are scams and we would advise that you do not enter into any form of correspondence with these people. YOU MAY END UP LOSING YOUR HORSE/SALE ITEM AND YOUR MONEY!!!!If you receive an email that seems suspicious in any way or if you are just unsure about something you have received, please forward the email to us for advice. If a suspicious email also has attachments, do not attempt to open them. One way to avoid this type of email is to leave out an email contact address from your advert all together (although we do provide a contact form so that your email address is hidden from anyone who makes an enquiry via email through the site). Genuine potential purchasers will usually be more than willing to telephone you with any enquiries that they may have. One alternative if you receive an email is to reply to that person asking to contact you via telephone if they are genuinely interested. You should always proceed with caution when dealing with any person unknown to you as we have no way of totally verifying the identities of people who use this site. We will print the email addresses of anyone that is found to be sending Scam emails for you to check also if you receive anything suspicious. If we are made aware of any other types of scams, we will keep this page updated with information. |
